Being located on a busy highway, we’re starting to get more and more travelers. Unfortunately, our nearest neighboring winery is 30 to 45 minutes away. So we’re often asked, ‘where should we go next?’ So we thought, ‘why not write a blog post about How to Find Texas Wineries?’
Here are three tools that Moira & I would use on our winery travels.
The Texas Wine & Grape Growers Association’s smartphone app – Texas Wine Passport App. Launched in September of 2013, this mobile App works on both iPhone and Android platforms. With it you can “Find new wineries, get hot discounts and share your fabulous winery experiences on social media.” The most useful feature is how you can find the wineries closest to you with it’s interactive GPS using Google Maps. Based on your current location, you can see wineries that are nearest to you and plot directions with Google Maps. The bonus is their check-in Stamp feature. Check-in at participating Texas wineries with the app and start collecting virtual stamps. For every 10 stamps you earn, you’ll save $10 off any non-wine purchase at participating wineries! (Visit multiple times. Stamp at any one winery every 48 hours.) It also includes the address and contact information (phone, email & website) for the winery.
The TX Wine Passport provides additional marketing initiatives and educational incentives for students pursuing Viticulture and Enology programs. It is the only app whose sole purpose is to market the Texas wine industry and seek funds for scholarships. The Texas Wine Foundation, Inc. is devoted to the improvement, growth, and prosperity of the Texas wine and grape industry. The Foundation generates funds for marketing, promotion, research, and education programs for the benefit of the industry.
To be listed as a Texas winery location on this app, the winery must be a member of the Texas Wine & Grape Growers Association and choose to participate in the program.
For the most complete listing of Texas Wineries, you need to visit the Texas Wine Lover Blog site. If you are a supporter of Texas wine, this is the “premier website for Texas wine news and information.” We have been following Jeff’s blog for years, a great source of information highlighting Texas Wineries. Of course, we have to share the post he wrote about Spirit of Texas Winery in July!
In his site, is the Texas Wineries Map. Available from any browser, is a Google Map listing of all Texas Wineries (there is another listing for Texas Vineyards). A must bookmark for any Texas Wine Lover!
For all things Texan, you need to download the Go Texan app. This app lets you discover local restaurants, wineries, farmers markets, pick-your-own farms, florists, nurseries, retailers and other businesses offering Texas products and services. You will also get access to Texas recipes, events, coupons and more! Go local wherever you go! If you’ve lived in Texas all your life or are just visiting, let GO TEXAN guide you to the best local options in the Lone Star State! This app also works on both iPhones and Androids.
The app works much like the TX Wine Passport using GPS to show the wineries near your current location. It lists the contact information (phone, email & website) for the winery as well as having a check-in stamp feature. You can set favorites and have access to other Go Texan categories.
To be listed as a Texas winery location on this app, the winery must be a member of the Go Texan program.
